FURMAN, S.C. – Duke women's tennis wrapped up day two of three at the Furman Invitational on Saturday at the Mickel Tennis Center.
Freshman
Emma Jackson earned a signature singles win, defeating No. 29 Ayana Akli of South Carolina, 6-3, 6-4. The victory was the first over a ranked opponent in the La Grange Park, Ill., native's collegiate career and advances her to the final of flight two tomorrow morning.
Senior
Georgia Drummy delivered a strong bounce-back performance in flight two, defeating Clemson's No. 72 Eleni Louka, 6-4, 7-6. The Dublin, Ireland native won her first ranked battle of the season and first against an ACC opponent.
In doubles, sophomore
Karolina Berankova and senior
Margaryta Bilokin registered a strong performance, defeating Ana Cruz and Misa Malkin from South Carolina, 6-3. The duo secured third place in flight four.
The Blue Devils competed in several doubles finals, but ultimately came up short in all three.
Chloe Beck and
Ellie Coleman fell, 6-2, to Cameron Morra and Carson Tanguilig of North Carolina,
Kelly Chen and
Eliza Omirou dropped a 6-1 decision to Kylie Blichev and Ava Hrastar of Georgia Tech and Drummy and Jackson fell to another Yellow Jacket duo, Carol Lee and Kate Sharabura, 6-1.
Jackson will compete in the flight two singles final against Vanderbilt's Anessa Lee at 9 a.m. to start a packed final day of action. All remaining members of the women's tennis team will compete in one additional match to conclude the three-day event.
