DURHAM – Duke men's tennis announced Wednesday that Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-AmericanÂ
Arturo Kam will join the program as a graduate transfer for the 2021-22 season.
Â
Kam comes to Durham after spending four seasons at Division III Williams College.
Â
"Maciek (Sykut) and I are very excited to have Arturo joining our program this season," head coach
Ramsey Smith said. "Arturo has been one of the top Division III players in the country and he brings a wealth of experience, maturity, and leadership to Duke tennis. Arturo is an impressive young man from a great family, and he is a feisty competitor on the court. I can't wait for him to start competing with the Duke 'D' on his chest."
Â
Kam was tabbed an ITA All-American as both a singles and doubles player last season, while also being named the Co-NESCAC Player of the Year. The Mexico City, Mexico, native garnered First Team All-NESCAC nods in singles and doubles action as well.
Â
Kam wrapped up his senior season leading Williams to its 16th NESCAC title and an overall record of 8-2 during a shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As an individual, he advanced to the semifinals of the 2021 NCAA Division III Singles Championship.
Â
He held a ranking as high as No. 1 in singles and doubles with teammate Calvin Chung in the Division III Northeast Regional rankings, while also concluding last season ranked as the No. 5 singles player and No. 9 doubles player according to the ITA Division III national rankings.
