TOKYO, Japan – Former Duke star Quinn helped the Canada Women's National Team earn its first win at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, logging 29 minutes in a 2-1 victory over Chile on Saturday.
Quinn was subbed in at midfield in the 61st minute, preserving the 2-1 Canadian advantage over the final third of the match. Canada improved to 1-0-1 with the win and moved to second in the Group E standings with four points. Quinn's side will take on Great Britain, which leads the group with six points, on Tuesday, July 27 at 7 a.m. ET.
Janine Beckie put Canada in front with a goal in the 39th minute, and again struck at the 47-minute mark to put her squad ahead 2-0. Chile cut the deficit in half in the 57th minute, but Quinn and the Canadian defensive unit held on to claim an important victory in group stage.
This marks Canada's fourth consecutive participation in women's soccer at the Summer Games. In the Rio Olympics five years ago, Quinn helped Canada capture its second consecutive bronze medal, marking the first time since 1908 that Canada won back-to-back medals in a team sport at the Summer Olympics.
