DURHAM – Head coach
Robbie Church and the Duke women's soccer program have announced the addition of goalkeeper
Maddie Nielsen, who will join the Blue Devils as a graduate transfer in the 2021 season.
A native of Shoreline, Wash., Nielsen played in 49 matches with 47 starts over a four-year career at Minnesota. She recorded three straight shutouts to lead the Gophers to a Big Ten Tournament title in 2018, earning Defensive Most Outstanding Player and All-Tournament Team honors in the process. Nielsen started each of Minnesota's 19 games in 2019 and recorded 74 saves with four clean-sheet performances. She was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in her junior year.
"We're excited to have Maddie join our soccer family," Church said. "She's an experienced goalkeeper who has played in a top league in the Big Ten. She'll bring that experience to us, and on the field she'll bring that leadership. She goes about her preparation in a very professional way."
Nielsen earned her degree as a Kinesiology major at Minnesota and will enroll in the Master of Management Studies (MMS) program at Duke's Fuqua School of Business.
