DURHAM -- Duke Athletics finished the 2020-21 campaign ranked 21st in the Learfield IMG Directors' Cup Standings announced Friday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
Duke secured 831.50 total points to finish fifth among ACC schools, marking the 19th consecutive year that four or more ACC schools placed among the top 30 in the final rankings. The Blue Devils have finished in the top 30 all but twice in the 27 years since the Directors' Cup standings were first presented in 1993-94.
A total of 16 Duke teams earned points including baseball (37.5), men's cross country (42), women's cross country (20), fencing (85), women's golf (82.5), men's lacrosse (83), women's lacrosse (70), rowing (42), women's soccer (73), softball (50), women's swimming & diving (38), men's tennis (25), women's tennis (73), men's indoor track & field (43.5), women's outdoor track & field (42) and wrestling (25).
North Carolina finished fourth overall with 1,126.25 points, followed by Virginia (11th), Notre Dame (14th), Florida State (16th), Duke (21st) and NC State (23rd) to complete the ACC's top-25 contingent. Ten of the top 50 teams in the Learfield Directors' Cup came from the ACC with Virginia Tech placing 32nd, Clemson 36th, Louisville 40th and Georgia Tech 44th.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. Nineteen total teams can earn points for the final standings, four of which must be baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball.
