DURHAM – The U.S. News & World Report ranked the Raleigh-Durham area as the No. 2 place in the United States to live in their annual list of top areas to live.
Raleigh-Durham was highlighted for its "research/technology roots and collegiate rivalries" and given a 7.5 overall score. The Triangle – Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill – has seen a growing population base in recent decades partly due to job opportunities, relative affordability and nationally-recognized universities.
U.S. News analyzed 150 metro areas in the United States to find the best places to live based on quality of life and the job market in each metro area, as well as the value of living there and people's desire to live there.
"This tri-city region is luring new residents every day with strong job growth and a high quality of life." The Triangle was also praised for a "strong sense of community" and described much of the demographic as "young, friendly, diverse and educated."
Earlier this year, Apple announced it picked the Triangle for a $1 billion campus and Google selected Durham for an engineering hub.
In other sections of the U.S. News & World Report, the Triangle was ranked No. 28 in best places to retire, No. 1 in places to live in North Carolina and No. 23 in fastest growing places.
