GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference and its Board of Directors announced today that Duke University President Vincent E. Price will serve as the league's Chair of the Board of Directors, and University of Louisville President Neeli Bendapudi will serve as the Vice-Chair. Price and Bendapudi begin their service on July 1 and will serve in their respective roles for the next two academic years. ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips serves as the Conference's Chief Executive Officer.
Last summer, the Atlantic Coast Conference adopted changes to the ACC Constitution and Bylaws that officially established the 15 league presidents and chancellors as the ACC's Board of Directors. Price succeeds Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud, who was Chair of the Board during the most recent academic year.
"This is a moment of great opportunity and transition for college athletics and the ACC," said Price. "Our conference is in a very strong position after a disruptive but inspiring year, and I look forward to working with Commissioner Phillips and my fellow board members to provide the best possible experience for our student-athletes and those who support them."
"The leadership at the ACC's 15 member institutions is truly outstanding and that begins with our Chancellors and Presidents," said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips. "The commitment to our nearly 10,000 student-athletes is present at the forefront of every discussion, along with how to ensure any decisions fit within the broader institutional and conference missions. It continues to be a privilege to serve the ACC's 15 world-class institutions."
The Conference's Executive Committee will include President Price and President Bendapudi, who will be joined by President James Clements (Clemson University), Chancellor Kent Syverud (Syracuse University), President James Ryan (University of Virginia) and Chancellor Randy Woodson (North Carolina State University). President Clements will serve as a member of the Executive Committee for the next two years while Chancellor Syverud, President Ryan and Chancellor Woodson will serve during the 2021-22 academic year. The remaining Board of Directors' members are represented on other key committees such as Finance, Audit and Autonomy and will rotate onto the Executive Committee as terms expire.
The Chair of the Faculty Athletic Representatives for the 2021-22 academic year will be Peter Brubaker (Wake Forest University). Bubba Cunningham (University of North Carolina) will be the Chair of the Athletics Directors, and Jennifer Strawley (University of Miami) will serve as the Chair of the Senior Woman Administrators.
