DURHAM – After a solid 2021 campaign, the Duke doubles tandem of
Garrett Johns and
Sean Sculley finished in the top-25 of the final Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
Â
The Blue Devils' top doubles team came in at the No. 25 spot after representing Duke during the 2021 NCAA Doubles Championship last month. The duo became the first Duke doubles team to reach the 32-team field sinceÂ
Spencer Furman andÂ
Nick Stachowiak did so in 2017. The pair finished the year with a 9-10 doubles mark, including a 4-6 record against ranked opponents.
Â
Johns and Sculley, along with sophomoreÂ
Andrew Zhang all garnered All-ACC recognition earlier this year. Johns was tabbed to the second team, while Sculley and Zhang were third team selections.
Â
Johns finished the year ranked No. 73 in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings as well. The Atlanta, Ga., native served as Duke's No. 1 singles player all year, going 10-9 overall, including victories over No. 34 Adria Soriano Barrera of Miami and No. 47 Jakub Wojcik of South Florida. The sophomore clinched two matches for Duke and had 5-of-10 matches against ranked opponents go unfinished.
Â
As a team, the Blue Devils concluded the 2021 season ranked No. 36 in the final Oracle/ITA poll.
