DURHAM – Senior
Sean Sculley and sophomore
Andrew Zhang were named to the All-ACC Academic team, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Â
The accolade is the second of Sculley's career as he also earned the honor in 2018. Zhang received his first career All-ACC Academic nod.
Â
Sculley, a third team All-ACC honoree, compiled a singles mark of 6-5 and a doubles ledger of 9-10. The Hilton Head Island, S.C., native bounced between Duke's No. 2 and 3 singles positions, and finished the regular season 1-2 against ranked opponents. Sculley clinched two matches for the Blue Devils in singles action, including a 5-2 win over No. 40 Liberty. In doubles play, he teamed up with sophomoreÂ
Garrett Johns to make Duke's top doubles tandem and earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Doubles Championship. The duo was nationally ranked in the top-20 all year as well.
Â
Zhang, a third team All-ACC selection, led the Blue Devils with a 13-5 singles record and a 14-6 doubles mark. Playing mostly at the No. 3 singles position for the latter portion of the season, Zhang wrapped up the regular season at 5-0 in that spot and led the team with a 4-3 record in ACC play. The Bloomfield Hills, Mich., product won three of his final four league matches and four of six during the last leg of the season. Zhang concluded the year with five clinching victories for Duke, including wins over Florida State and No. 43 Miami. In doubles action, he played with three different teammates throughout the year and closed the season winning seven of his last nine doubles matches.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students.
