DURHAM – Former Duke women's soccer student-athlete
Toni Payne and the Nigeria Women's National Team are set to take on the U.S. Women's National Team on Wednesday, June 16 at 9 p.m. ET in Austin, Texas.
The match will air on ESPN2, with official kickoff at 9:08 p.m. ET. The U.S. and Nigeria National Teams are closing out the 2021 Summer Series, a week-long event featuring the USA, Portugal, Jamaica and Nigeria. It will be the first soccer game held at the brand new, state-of-the-art, 20,500 seat Q2 Stadium in Austin.
Payne, a 2017 Duke graduate, has started both of Nigeria's matches so far in the Summer Series – a 1-0 loss to Jamaica on June 10 and a 3-3 draw against Portugal on June 13. In the Portugal match, she assisted on the game-tying goal in the 96th minute.
On Tuesday, ESPN.com published a feature on Payne and her sister, Nicole, as they prepare to face the USWNT after representing the USA from the U14 through U20 levels. To read the piece written by Colin Udoh, click
