DURHAM – Duke's incoming men's tennis recruiting class was tabbed the No. 16 class in the nation, according to rankings released byÂ
TennisRecruiting.net on Monday.
Â
Twins
Connor Krug and
Jake Krug make up the highly touted class that signed their National Letters of Intent back in November. The duo will enroll in August of 2021 and join the Blue Devil squad for the 2021-22 season.
Â
Duke's 127 points were the fourth most for an ACC school. The Blue Devils finished behind NC State and Florida State, who were tied for the No. 1 spot, as well as Notre Dame, who came in at No. 13.
Â
To compile the rankings,Â
TennisRecruiting.net asked panelists to vote on the rankings. Each of the panelists submitted his/her take on the Top 25 recruiting classes. Schools received 25 points for each first-place vote, 24 points for each second-place vote, on down to 1 point for each 25th-place vote.
Â
"During the recruiting process, I was immediately drawn to their passion for the game, extraordinary work ethic and close-knit family," Duke head coach
Ramsey Smith said about the Krug brothers earlier this year. "The twins align with our program values and standards, and they will immediately have a positive impact on Duke Tennis."
Â
The 6'5" Blue Chip prospects from Lakewood Ranch, Fla., attended Out-of-Door Academy in Sarasota, Fla., for ninth grade before switching to online-based schooling through Laurel Springs for the reminder of high school.
Â
While as freshmen at Out-of-Door Academy, the Krugs helped their team to become 2018 Class 1A Florida High School State Champions for the first time in school history. The pair also teamed up to earn the title of USTA Gold Ball Boys Doubles Champions and were a part of the USTA National Spring Team Championship squad in 2017.
 Â
"Connor and Jake have been fortunate to work with Heath Turpin and Lance Luciani who have done an incredible job with fundamentals and developing their games for the highest level of college tennis," Smith added.
Â
Connor and Jake are the sons of Thomas Krug and Sherri Vitale. Their parents were collegiate athletes at Notre Dame as their father, Thomas, played football (1993-1997) while their mother, Sherri, played tennis (1992-1996). Their maternal grandfather is longtime ESPN broadcaster, Dick Vitale.
