DURHAM, N.C. – Women's soccer sophomore
Sophie Jones has been selected Duke's PNC Achiever's Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in double overtime of the NCAA Second Round on Saturday.
Jones netted the game-winner off a cross from freshman
Maggie Graham in the 103rd minute, giving the ninth-seeded Blue Devils a 2-1 victory over Arizona State. The goal advanced Duke to the round of 16, where it will meet Ole Miss at 12 p.m. on Wednesday at the WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C.
Jones' tally was her third in the last five matches, after going scoreless in her first 24 career appearances. The Menlo Park, Calif., native played all 103 minutes in the winning effort.
Duke looks to earn a spot in the NCAA quarterfinals for the sixth time in the last 10 seasons on Wednesday.
