DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's tennis program has awarded its annual Charles Hamilton Hargrave Most Valuable Player award, with graduate student
Meible Chi earning the award for the first time.
The Weston, Fla., native has been one of the most successful in program history, capturing a program record with 43 ACC victories over her Blue Devils tenure. Chi is also continuing her climb up the all-time singles wins list, tying Julie Exum for fourth in Blue Devils history with 135 on Saturday in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament against Baylor.
The award is just another in a growing list of honors for Chi. Named All-ACC Third Team this season, she became just the 15th player in Duke history to be named to four separate All-ACC teams. Chi is a three-time NCAA Singles Championship qualifier who will compete in doubles in the 2021 championships and was named the 2020 ITA Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award recipient. Chi has also been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll four times (2017-2020), to the All-ACC Academic Team twice (2018 & 2019) and been honored as a 2019 ITA Scholar Athlete.
Charles Hamilton Hargrave was one of the Blue Devils' first men's team captains, lettering for the program in 1927-28. His family wanted to keep his memory alive within the Duke Tennis program and endowed the MVP award in his name.
