DURHAM – The second-ranked Duke women's golf team received its 28th consecutive bid to participate in NCAA Regional action Wednesday as the Blue Devils were seeded No. 1 in the Columbus Regional and will next travel to Columbus, Ohio, from May 10-12 to play for an invitation to the NCAA Championship. The regional will be played at the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club.
Duke was seeded No. 1 for the 14th time out of the last 21 years (2021, 2019, 2018, 2014, 2013, 2010, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2001 and 2000.
Other teams competing in the regional are Arizona State, Virginia, Kent State, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Michigan, Clemson, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Illinois, New Mexico, Nebraska, Washington, Coastal Carolina, Campbell, Youngstown State and Evansville.
The regional will be a three-day, 54-hole tournament with 18 holes played each day. Duke will open action on Monday, May 10.
The top four seeds in the regions were – South Carolina (Louisville), Duke (Columbus), Louisiana State (Baton Rouge), Wake Forest (Stanford). From regional competition, 24 teams and 12 individuals from four sites will advance to the national championships to be played May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Duke has won a NCAA regional title on 10 different occasions in 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2013, 2015 and 2018.
It will mark the first time since 2006 that the Blue Devils have traveled to Columbus, Ohio to play on the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State Golf Club. That 2006 season was very special as Duke won its fourth NCAA Championship, including its second straight crown. The Blue Devils were also a No. 1 seed in Columbus, Ohio in 2000 for the regional. Â
The team enters regional play with three victories and four top four placements on the season. Duke claimed its 22nd ACC Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., on April 18. The Blue Devils turned in an 11-under-par in stroke play to earn the No. 1 seed in match play. Duke then went on to defeat Virginia (3-2) and Florida State (5-0) to earn the trophy. Junior
Gina Kim became the 14th Blue Devil and 20th overall Duke golfer to win the ACC Individual crown. Â
Brooks has guided the Blue Devils to a NCAA Division I record 140 career wins and 21 of Duke's 22 ACC titles. In his 37th year at Duke, Brooks has led the Blue Devils to seven NCAA Championships (1999, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2014 and 2019) and has taken his squad to the NCAA Regionals every year since 1993.
This year's women's golf championships will be broadcast for the sixth consecutive year by Golf Channel with more than 100 news and tournament hours planned again for the men's and women's golf championships.
