DURHAM – Duke attackman
Michael Sowers has been named the ACC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week and to the USILA Team of the Week following his stellar five-point outing against Notre Dame last Thursday. Sowers was instrumental as the then-No. 3 Blue Devils rallied from a 12-7 deficit to a 13-12 overtime win against the No. 2 Irish.
This is his third career ACC weekly honor and the first time he has landed on the USILA Team of the Week this season.
With Duke trailing with just over eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Dresher, Pa., native spearheaded Duke's incredible overtime comeback win over No. 2 Notre Dame and finished with four goals and an assist for five points. Sowers scored the team's final two goals in a span of 20 seconds to tie the game and force overtime.
The Tewaaraton nominee dished out the assist for the game winner in overtime. Sowers registered three of his four goals in the second half as Duke trailed, 7-3, after the first half. It was Sowers' eighth outing with at least five points and his seventh hat trick of the year. He leads the Duke offense with 60 points and has at least one point in all 60 career games.
Sowers most recently was selected No. 2 in the 2021 PLL College Draft presented by Champion Monday night. He will join Waterdogs Lacrosse Club for his first professional season following the conclusion of his collegiate career.
Duke (12-1) will travel to Chapel Hill Sunday, May 2, where it will take on the North Carolina Tar Heels (10-2) at 4 p.m.
