DURHAM, N.C. – Duke is slated to face back-to-back nationally ranked foes when it travels to No. 10 Tennessee and No. 19 Kentucky on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
The Blue Devils will first meet up with the Volunteers on Friday at 1 p.m. in Goodfriend Tennis Center. Duke will then have one day to recover before it's back on the court Sunday against the Wildcats at 12 p.m. in Boone Tennis Center.
HISTORY WITH TENNESSEE
Friday's contest is the 28th all-time meeting between the two programs with the Vols holding a 16-11 edge. Tennessee has strung together three-straight wins over the Blue Devils with Duke's last victory coming on Feb. 12, 2017 thanks to a 4-0 win in Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
SCOUTING THE VOLUNTEERS
Tennessee has started the 2021 season undefeated at 6-0 with its most recent victory coming against Notre Dame, 7-0. That win marked their third shutout of the season.
HISTORY WITH KENTUCKY
Duke holds the 14-7 advantage on the all-time series with the Wildcats, including a 4-1 victory last season. Over the last eight years, the two teams have exchanged victories but prior to that Duke had won nine of the last 10 meeting between the two schools.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Duke will also face an undefeated opponent on Sunday as Kentucky sits at 7-0. Prior to meeting up with Duke on Sunday the Wildcats will host Virginia Tech on Friday.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blue Devils blanked both Campbell and UNC Wilmington last weekend to pull to .500 on the year at 2-2. After earning the double points on Sunday against the Seahawks, Duke continued its momentum in singles action by not dropping a single set for the second consecutive outing.
Samuel Rubell jumpstarted things by making quick work of Michael Copeland (6-1, 6-1) on court four.
Garrett Johns then followed on court one, taking the win over Bruno Caula (6-2, 6-3) to hand the home side a 3-0 advantage. A few minutes later, rookie
Andrew Dale clinched the Duke win when he defeated Gabriel Hurtado, 6-0 and 6-2, on court five.
UP NEXT
The Blue Devils will be back on their home court on Feb. 14 when they host Furman at 11 a.m. in Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
