Women’s Basketball Returns to Associated Press Poll at No. 19

DURHAM – Coming off an impressive win against ninth-ranked Iowa, combined with an 8-0 start to the 2021-22 campaign, the Duke women's basketball team returned to the Associated Press poll on Monday, debuting at No. 19.
The No. 19 ledger marks the first ranking for Duke head coach Kara Lawson at the helm of the Blue Devils. Lawson is one of only 47 former NCAA Division I players to play and coach on a ranked team.
Duke returns to the Associated Press poll for the first time since the preseason of the 2018-19 campaign, when the Blue Devils were listed at No. 21. The Blue Devils have now been tabbed by the writers a total of 450 weeks and at least once a year in 29 out of 37 years the poll has been produced.
As a team, Duke has featured a very balanced squad led by junior Celeste Taylor (14.4 points, 7.8 rebounds), freshman Shayeann Day-Wilson (13.3 points, 22 treys) and Lexi Gordon (11.1 points, 17 treys). The Blue Devils currently rank in the top-20 nationally in scoring offense (17th, 80.8), field goal percentage (12th, 47.9), blocked shots per game (20th, 5.6) and scoring margin (15th, 22.0).
South Carolina remained No. 1 in the latest poll and will be Duke's next opponent. The Gamecocks travel to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Dec. 15 for a 7 p.m., tilt live on the ACC Network.
A total of four ACC teams were listed in Monday's poll – NC State (2), Louisville (7), Duke (19) and Notre Dame (22).
