WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Duke wrestling program (3-4) concluded its Mid-Atlantic road trip on Sunday, dropping a 25-19 decision to Hofstra and a 22-18 result to American at Bender Arena.
Â
In the opening dual match, Hofstra (1-2) rode wins from their three ranked wrestlers to build an early advantage. However, sophomore
Logan Agin started a comeback, with his third consecutive win by fall, defeating Jacob Moon to shave the lead to 12-6.
Â
Redshirt sophomore
Drake Doolittle added an important decision to cut deficit even further, while redshirt senior brothers
Josh Finesilver and
Matt Finesilver each recorded wins by tech fall. However, it was not enough to overcome the Hofstra lead, as the Pride got a boost from a Duke forfeit.
Â
The Finesilver brothers capped off 4-0 weekends with major decisions in the finale against American (1-4). Junior
Wade Unger fit in another major decision, downing Cole Painter 10-2, as the Blue Devils mounted a comeback attempt on the Eagles after initially falling behind 10-0.
Â
Redshirt senior
Kaden Russell added a critical win with the Blue Devils down 19-12, earning a win by fall over Will Jarrell at 2:17 to give Duke a chance. However, American was able to escape with the victory off a tight 5-3 decision to seal the 22-18 win.
Â
With their 4-0 weekends, the Finesilver brothers are a combined 27-1 this season, with
Matt Finesilver maintaining a perfect 14-0 record.
Â
The Blue Devils will be back in action on Sunday, Dec. 19, with home opening duals against The Citadel and Bloomsburg at 10 a.m., and 2 p.m. The matches will be broadcast on ACCNX.
