DURHAM — With the year of 2022 approaching, let's look back at a very successful 2021 with the Duke women's golf program, which included the program's 22nd ACC Championship. Below are the top moments from 2021.
Duke wins ACC Championship as a Team
Duke hoisted its 22nd ACC Championship trophy at Sedgefield Country Club as the top-seeded Blue Devils defeated third-seeded Florida State, 5-0, in match play to claim the title in Greensboro, N.C.

Gina Kim Advances Through Q-School

Gina Kim earned her 2022 LPGA Tour card after closing two weeks of action at the LPGA Q Series, which was played at Magnolia Grove Crossings and Falls Courses in Mobile, Ala. Kim was one of 46 golfers to receive their card, including one of only four amateurs. Â
Leona Maguire/Celine Boutier Shine at Solheim Cup
The Duke duo of Celine Boutier and Leona Maguire combined for six points over three days to help lead Europe to a 15-13 victory over the United States at the Solheim Cup, which was contested at the Iverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. Both former Duke National Player of the Year selections won their singles matches on Sunday to help Europe retain the Solheim Cup on U.S. soil for the first time. Â
Maguire, a 2018 Blue Devil graduate, was the undisputed Woman of the Match for the Solheim Cup earning 4.5 points, becoming the first rookie in history to collect 4.5 points. Maguire was just the third golfer to earn more than four points in a single Solheim Cup, joining her fellow Europeans Caroline Hedwall (5-0-0 in 2013) and Carin Koch (4-0-1 in 2002).
A 2015 Duke graduate, Boutier posted a 5&4 victory over Mina Harigae. After making a birdie on No. 5 to take a 1UP lead, Boutier made the turn 3UP and never looked back. Boutier now owns a 5-1-1 all-time record in the Solheim Cup in two appearances, including a 2-0 mark in singles play. Â
Gina Kim wins ACC Individual Title

Gina Kim carded her third straight round in the 60s on her way to claiming individual medalist honors at the ACC Championship with a 10-under-par, 206, at the 6,132-yard, par-72 Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
Kim became the 14th Blue Devil to win an ACC crown and marked the 20th ACC individual championship in school history. She matched the lowest 54-hole score in Blue Devil ACC Championship history at 10-under-par along with three-time ACC champion Leona Maguire. Â
East Lake Cup Appearance
With the Blue Devils advancing to the semifinals of match play at the NCAA Championship in May, Duke received an invite for the prestigious East Lake Cup in October. The Blue Devils made their fourth appearance in the event and advanced to the championship match with a 4-1 victory over the reigning NCAA champion Ole Miss. Sophomore
Phoebe Brinker was awarded with the Tom Cousins Award at the tournament, which recognizes a collegiate golfer best representing the values of the award: excelling in academics and engagement in the community. Â
Brooks/Chuasiriporn/Ibarguen receive HOF nods
In December at the Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas, Nev., former Duke golfer and four-time All-American Jenny Chuasiriporn was inducted into the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Players Hall of Fame. Chuasiriporn, along with Lizette Salas of Southern California and Kristen White of Ohio State, became the 79th, 80th and 81st members of the WGCA Players Hall of Fame. Dan Brooks was inducted into the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) Hall of Fame on Dec. 1, 2021, at the Country Club of North Carolina in Southern Pines, N.C., along with Dorathy Dotger Thigpen and Frank Ford III.
Ed Ibarguen, the General Manager and PGA Director of Golf at the Duke University Golf Club, was one of six individuals to be inducted to the PGA of America Hall of Fame in 2021.
LeBrun/Kim Help Lead U.S. to Curtis Cup Victory

Gina Kim helped guide the United States to a 12 1/2 to 7 1/2 victory over Great Britain and Ireland in the 41st Curtis Cup at Conwy Golf Club in North Wales. Â
Ingram, the captain for the United States squad, was a 1988 Duke graduate and a three-time Curtis Cup selection in 1992, 1994 and 1996. The USA won the match as the visiting team for the first time since 2008. Since 1992, the Blue Devils have had at least one representative in the Curtis Cup, and in 14 of the 15 times it has been contested. It is the best streak of any school in the nation. Â
Boutier Wins Twice in a Month Professionally
In a span of less than a month, Duke alumna Celine Boutier won the Lacoste Ladies Open and the ShopRite LPGA Classic in September and October. In her home country of France, Boutier won her second Ladies European Tour title as she registered a 1-stroke victory at the 2021 Lacoste Ladies Open, which was played at the Golf Club du Medoc. With a final round of 8-under-par, 63, former Boutier claimed her second career LPGA victory as she won the ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer at the Seaview, a Dolce Hotel Bay Course in Galloway, N.J.
Leona Maguire/Celine Boutier Olympic Appearances
A pair of Duke University women's golf graduates – Leona Maguire and Celine Boutier – closed Olympic golf action in Tokyo with top-35 finishes at the Kasumigaseki Country Club in Kawagoe, Saitama, Japan. Â
Over four rounds, Maguire turned in scores of 71, 67, 70 and 71 for a 5-under, 279, which was tied for 23rd overall. Boutier turned in a 2-under, 69, in the final round to move up to a tied for 34th placement with a 2-under, 282. Â
All-America/Scholar All-America Honors for Blue Devils – team finishes No. 1
For the seventh time in school history, head coach
Dan Brooks and the Duke women's golf program concluded the 2020-21 campaign as the top-ranked team in the nation in the Golfweek team rankings. Â
Golfweek announced its All-America selections for the 2020-21 campaign with four Duke women's golfers earning accolades –
Gina Kim,
Erica Shepherd,
Jaravee Boonchant and
Phoebe Brinker. Kim, Shepherd and Boonchant all earned second team honors, while Brinker was named honorable mention. Duke led all schools with four All-America selections. Â
Gina Kim Wins Pinehurst North & South
With a pair of match play wins on the final day, Duke rising senior
Gina Kim claimed the prestigious Pinehurst North & South Women's Amateur title on Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C. Kim closed out the impressive week with a 3&1 victory over Anna Morgan on Saturday afternoon to win the championship. She joined fellow Blue Devils Brittany Lang (2003), Candy Hannemann (2000), Beth Bauer (1998, 1999) and Stephanie Sparks (1992) to claim the Pinehurst North & South Women's Amateur title.
Kim, Shepherd, Whithaus lead U.S. to Arnold Palmer Cup Win

Jon Whithaus helped lead the United States to a 33-27 victory over the International squad at the Arnold Palmer Cup, which was played at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. Kim and Shepherd combined for a 7-1 ledger over three days to help the USA snap a streak of two straight wins for the International team. Whithaus, who is the associate head coach at Duke, was an assistant coach for the U.S.

Jon Whithaus following the 2020-21 season. Brooks earned WGCA Regional Coach of the Year, while Whithaus was named the Assistant Coach of the Year. Â
Shepherd Wins Individually, Team Wins Gamecock Intercollegiate
In a very impressive display of golf over three days in Columbia, S.C., Duke came away with new hardware at the Gamecock Intercollegiate, which was played at the 6,297-yard, par 72 Columbia Country Club. Against a stacked field that included eight teams ranked in the top-15 of the Golfweek national ledger, the 22nd-ranked Blue Devils shot even-par, 864, over 54 holes to win the team title by three strokes. It marked the first team victory for Duke in 2021 in just two tournaments played. Â
Erica Shepherd turned in rounds of 69, 70 and 70 for a seven-under-par, 209, to claim her first collegiate title. The sophomore led the field with 14 birdies and a four-under-par (3.86) scoring average on par-4 holes on the week. Â
Brinker, Duke Shoot Record Low at Valspar Augusta Invitational
Duke fired record-low numbers at the Valspar Augusta Invitational as the Blue Devils shot 25-under-par over 36 holes to lead the field. The Blue Devils turned in a 14-under-par, 274, in round one and then an 11-under-par, 277, in round two for a 36-hole ledger of 25-under-par, 551. The round of 274 was the fifth-lowest and the 277 was the tie for sixth-lowest in school history on a par 72 course. The 36-hole score of 551 was a new school record, besting the previous mark of 551. Â
The Blue Devils were the only team in the field with all five golfers under par on Saturday led by freshman
Phoebe Brinker with rounds of 64 and 71 for a nine-under-par, 135. Brinker turned in a Duke freshman record eight-under-par, 64, in round one. It was also the tied for 28th-lowest round in NCAA history, tied for fourth-lowest overall score in Blue Devil history, along with tied for second-lowest 18-hole ledger on a par-72 course in the Duke record books. She was bogey-free for all 18 holes in the first round to go along with a career-best eight birdies.
