DURHAM – Former Duke University women's basketball standout Haley Gorecki was added Sunday to the USA Basketball 3x3 women's team for the 2021 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup that will be played Nov. 12-14 at Bayfront Park in Miami, Fla.
Gorecki, a 2019 Blue Devil graduate, was a 2020 USBWA All-America third team selection and a finalist for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award as the top shooting guard in the nation in her final year at Duke. She was drafted in the third round of the 2020 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm and played in two games with the Phoenix Mercury in 2021.
She joins the USA roster after Alexis Peterson, who previously was named to the team, is unable to participate due to injury.
Gorecki and her USA teammates Cierra Burdick, Blake Dietrick and Brionna Jones, along with the USA 3x3 Men's AmeriCup Team, will open training camp on Nov. 8 in Miami Lakes, Fla., before beginning play in the inaugural 3x3 zone qualifier.
The USA women will play in Group B, opening against Venezuela at 1:50 p.m. (all times listed are EST) on Nov. 13, followed by Argentina at 5:40 p.m.
The USA 3x3 AmeriCup Men's Team includes Trey Bardsley, Canyon Barry, Charlie Brown Jr., and Kareem Maddox.
Joe Lewandowski (Point Park University), who has been coaching/advising USA Basketball 3x3 national teams since 2014, will serve as head coach for both teams.
The USA men will play their first two preliminary round game on Nov. 12 – against Mexico at 2:35 p.m. (all times listed are EST) followed by Venezuela at 6:25 p.m.
For both the men's and women's tournament, the quarterfinals, semifinals, bronze medal game and gold medal game will be played on Nov. 14.
The gold medalist women's and men's teams will earn a qualifying berth into the 2022 FIBA 3x3 World Cup.
