DURHAM -- Graduate student
Tess Boade has been named Duke's PNC Achievers Student-Athlete of the Week after contributing to the game-winning goal in both of Duke's wins over ranked opponents last week.
In Thursday night's tilt against No. 15 Notre Dame, Boade assisted on freshman
Michelle Cooper's goal just 50 seconds into overtime that lifted the Blue Devils to a 1-0 win. The Highlands Ranch, Colo., native received the ball at midfield and sent a perfect through pass behind the Fighting Irish defense that Cooper was able to catch up to before dribbling around a charging goalkeeper and scoring.
Boade notched her own game-winner on Sunday to lead No. 6 Duke to a 1-0 home victory over No. 1 Florida State. In the 27th minute, a long pass from sophomore
Emily Royson went through Cooper and rolled to the feet of Boade at the top of the 18-yard box. The graduate student turned towards goal and fired a left-footed shot that handcuffed goalkeeper Mia Justus, trickling just over the line to get the Blue Devils on the board.
The goal was Boade's seventh of the season and gives her 10 points in her last five matches.
Duke wraps up the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 28, when the Blue Devils travel to Louisville for a 5 p.m. match on ACC Network.
PNC Achievers is a student honors platform that is active at nearly 20 schools and universities across PNC Bank's service area.
