VENICE, Fla. – The Duke duo of Virginia Elena Carta and
Gina Kim placed in the top 45 of Stage II of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament Sunday to advance on to LPGA Q-Series as they continue to pursue a LPGA Tour card for the 2022 season.
Kim, a senior from Durham, N.C., placed tied for 19th, while Carta, a 2019 Duke graduate from Udine, Italy, tied for 37th. Blue Devil 2021 graduate
Jaravee Boonchant tied for 95th, but will receive Symetra Tour status for 2022.
The LPGA Q-Series will take place Nov. 29 to Dec. 12 on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama.
With rounds of 69, 73, 68 and 72, Kim carded a 6-under, 282. She closed the final round with birdies on No. 11 and No. 16 to finish 2-under over her final eight holes. Kim netted 17 birdies over the 72 holes of action. She was one of 11 amateurs to finish in the top 47.
Carta collected scores of 69, 72, 70 and 74 for a 3-under, 285. She had only six bogeys over her first three rounds and finished with 14 birdies for the week.
Pauline Roussin-Bouchard shot a 7-under, 65, in the final round to claim medalist honors with a 19-under, 269.
Kim will meet up with her teammates in Atlanta, Ga., for the East Lake Cup, which will take place Oct. 25-27 at the East Lake Golf Club. The Blue Devils will tee off Monday in the stroke play portion of the event beginning at 10:55 a.m., along with Ole Miss, Oklahoma State and Arizona. The Golf Channel will air coverage beginning at 2:30 p.m., Monday.
