
Duke Set to Host ITA Carolina Regional Championship

DURHAM – Duke men's tennis hosts the 2021 ITA Carolina Regional Championship this weekend at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
More than 128 competitors will be in action as the tournament stretches from Friday through Tuesday.
Ten Blue Devils will compete this weekend in Andrew Dale (doubles action only), Edu Güell, Michael Heller, Garrett Johns, Arturo Kam, Faris Khan, Connor Krug, Jake Krug, Niroop Vallabhaneni, and Andrew Zhang. Duke's 10 representatives are up from the seven participants it sent in 2019 at the same tournament. The event was not held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Six of Duke's 10 representatives were seeded on Thursday during the draw creation: Johns (3), Zhang (11), Güell (17-32), Heller (17-32), Khan (17-32), and C. Krug (17-32).
Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and all players are guaranteed two singles matches throughout the day. The doubles portion of the event will begin on Saturday.
The singles and doubles winners from each of the ITA regionals advance to the 2021 ITA National Fall Championships, held Nov. 4-7, at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
Following this weekend's qualifier event, the Blue Devils travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Wake Forest Fall Invite the weekend of Nov. 5-7.
