DURHAM – Former Duke University women's basketball standout Lexie Brown helped the Chicago Sky claim its first WNBA Championship over the weekend as the Sky won the series with Phoenix by a 3-1 ledger.
After taking game one, 91-77, Chicago dropped a 91-86 decision on the road at the Mercury. The Sky then won back-to-back games on Oct. 15 with an 86-50 victory and then on Sunday with an 80-74 decision at home in Chicago to clinch the title.
Brown became the sixth different Blue Devil to win a WNBA Championship – Mistie Bass (2014), Alana Beard (2016), Karima Christmas (2012), Chelsea Gray (2016) and Tricia Liston (2015).
In the WNBA finals, Brown saw action in three of the four contests. She collected five points, two rebounds and one assist in 11 minutes in game three.
Brown is in her fourth season in the WNBA and closed her first year with Chicago.
A native of Suwanee, Ga., Brown had an outstanding collegiate career with the Blue Devils, totaling 2,088 points, 587 assists, 345 steals, 262 three-pointers made and 455 rebounds. The 5-9 guard became only the third player in NCAA Power Five Conference history to accumulate over 2,000 points, 500 assists, 300 steals and 200 three-pointers during her time at Duke and Maryland. She was a two-time Associated Press All-America selection. Brown graduated from Duke in 2017 and then received a graduate degree from the Duke Fuqua School of Business in 2018.
