DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's tennis squad is set to kick off the 2021 spring slate Jan. 10-12 by hosting the Duke Winter Classic in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
The Blue Devils welcome ACC foe NC State and Tennessee to Durham for the competition. The Wolfpack ended the 2020 spring season tabbed No. 7 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA),while the Vols were No. 23.
Competition will begin Sunday at noon with singles followed by doubles at 4 p.m., and finishing the day with a second round of singles at 5 p.m. On Monday and Tuesday, action begins at 11:15 a.m.
This weekend features some of the top-ranked athletes from the 2020 season as the Wolfpack return all five players featured in the final ITA rankings while the Vols return four.
Duke returns six of last year's eight squad members and welcome two newcomers. Senior
Kelly Chen headlines the Duke contingent as the seventh-ranked player in the country by the ITA. Sophomore
Chloe Beck finished her rookie campaign checking in at No. 31 followed by
Margaryta Bilokin (No. 56) and graduate
Meible Chi (No. T105). On the doubles side, Beck and Chi were ranked No. 45 while Beck and Chen were No. 63.
The full 2021 spring schedule will be released at a later date.
Due to the impact of COVID-19, Duke University will begin its spring sport program seasons without spectators at home events. Contests played on Duke's campus will include essential game management personnel and broadcast media. Traditional parking lots used by fans on game day will be closed.
