DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's soccer team is set to continue the 2020-21 campaign with a five-match regular season from March 6 through April 11. The Blue Devils will travel to three road games and play a pair of home contests in Koskinen Stadium.
"We are excited for the schedule and the chance to play this spring," said head coach
Robbie Church. "This is a unique opportunity. It will be the first time having counting games that will go towards NCAA selection in the spring. With our limited number of matches we are allowed to play, we think we have compiled a very competitive schedule. We have some rivalry games and we are also stepping out to play some teams we haven't played as much in the past from other leagues, which will show us different styles of play that will prepare us for the NCAA Tournament."
Duke will kick off its spring season at UNC Wilmington to face the Seahawks on Saturday, March 6 at 2 p.m. ET. The Blue Devils then host Coastal Carolina the following week for a 2 p.m. matchup on Sunday, March 14.
After a week off, the team will head to Morgantown, W.Va., on Saturday, March 27 to take on West Virginia at 3 p.m. ET. It will mark the first contest between the Blue Devils and Mountaineers since the 2017 season.
Duke will make the short trip down the road to Raleigh, N.C., for a non-conference match at NC State on Friday, April 2 at 7 p.m. The Blue Devils will wrap up the regular season slate on Sunday, April 11, when they welcome Vanderbilt to Koskinen at 1 p.m.
The NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament, which was postponed in the fall due to COVID-19 safety measures, is slated to begin on April 30. The tournament will conclude at the Women's College Cup scheduled for May 13-17 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
Broadcast selections have yet to be announced and will be available on GoDuke.com when released.
Duke ended the 2020 fall season ranked No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches Association final poll. The Blue Devils posted a 7-4-2 record that included a four-game winning streak in October. The team advanced to the semifinals of the ACC Championship before falling to top-seeded Florida State on Nov. 13.
The Blue Devils featured seven different student-athletes that scored at least one goal in the fall, while junior
Marykate McGuire led Duke with 10 points (two goals and six assists). Freshman
Olivia Migli netted a team-leading four goals and sophomore
Ruthie Jones was solid in goal with five shutouts and a 0.83 goals-against average.
Church reached a career milestone on Nov. 1, as the team's victory at Miami in the regular season finale marked his 250th win with the Blue Devils.
Due to the impact of COVID-19, Duke University will begin its spring sport program seasons without spectators at home events. Contests played on Duke's campus will include essential game management personnel and broadcast media. Traditional parking lots used by fans on game day will be closed.
Dates, opponents and match times for the 2021 spring season are subject to change. All changes will be posted on GoDuke.com and Duke women's soccer social media platforms.

Team-by-Team Breakdown for 2021 Spring Schedule
UNC Wilmington
Duke and UNC Wilmington have squared off twice before, with the Blue Devils posting a shutout win in both matches. Duke won 3-0 on Sept. 3, 2009, and claimed a 1-0 decision on Sept. 1, 2017. With both matches taking place in Koskinen Stadium, the Blue Devils will play the Seahawks in Wilmington for the first time on March 6. UNC Wilmington tallied a 10-6-1 record during the 2020 fall campaign.
Coastal Carolina
The Blue Devils hold a 2-0 series lead over the Chanticleers with both matches played in Durham. Duke won 9-0 in the first meeting between the programs on Aug. 24, 2008, and earned a 2-0 victory on Aug. 28, 2016. Coastal Carolina accrued a 6-5 record during the fall season.
West Virginia
Duke and West Virginia will face off for the first time since 2017 after playing five times the previous five seasons. The series is split at 2-2-1, with the Blue Devils picking up a 4-0 win in the last contest on Sept. 8, 2017 in Morgantown, W.Va. Duke is 2-1 overall when playing at West Virginia. The Mountaineers went 7-2 in the fall and were ranked one spot ahead of the Blue Devils at No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches Association final national poll.
NC State
After not playing a fall match against one another for the first time since the series began in 1988, Duke and NC State will rekindle the rivalry on Friday, April 2 in Raleigh, N.C. The Blue Devils lead the all-time series 23-10-3, but both of the last two meetings resulted in a 1-1 draw after double-overtime. Head coach
Robbie Church owns a 17-0-2 ledger versus the Wolfpack. NC State's last win in the series came on Oct. 17, 2000. Due to a depleted roster as an indirect impact of COVID-19, the Wolfpack opted out of the 2020 fall season.
Vanderbilt
The Duke-Vanderbilt series featured eight matchups from 1991-2001, and zero since then. The Blue Devils own a 5-3-0 advantage in those games, including a four-game win streak from 1992-1994. Duke is 3-1 versus Vanderbilt in Durham. The Commodores captured their first SEC championship since 1994 this past fall, defeating three straight nationally-ranked opponents in the conference tournament.
