DURHAM, N.C.— Former Duke NCAA Champion
Virginia Elena Carta is set to compete in the 2020 European Ladies' Amateur Championship Sept. 30 through Oct. 3 at CUBO Golf Course Ljubljana in Slovenia.
A total of 90 amateur golfers will see action over a span of 72 holes of stroke play for the championship.
Carta, the 2016 NCAA Individual Champion, is one of 20 golfers in NCAA history to win both a NCAA Individual and team championship. The Udine, Italy product closed her Duke career leading the Blue Devils to the 2019 NCAA Championship, which was Duke's seventh title in school history. Carta was a four-time All-ACC selection, 2016 First Team All-America and 2016 Honda Sports Award for golf with the Blue Devils.
Following graduation from Duke in 2019, Carta has been attending the University of Cambridge and will graduate in 2020 with a master's degree in environmental policy with a focus on sustainable development and small-scale farming.
Two former Duke golfers have won the European Ladies' Amateur Championship as Celine Boutier and Lisa Maguire won the title in back-to-back years in 2012 and 2011.
