PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic -- Five former Duke men's golfers will tee it up on the PGA Tour this weekend as the tour sails into the Caribbean for the Corales Punta Cana Resort & Club Championship.
Of the five Blue Devils in the field, former All-American
Alex Smalley is in on a sponsor's exemption. It is his second career Tour start since turning pro following his graduation, and he'll join
Matt Oshrine, who Monday qualified earlier this year and makes his PGA Tour debut, along with Tour pros
Wes Roach,
Adam Long and
Ryan Blaum.
The tournament runs Thursday through Sunday at the Corales Golf Club in Punta Cana.
Smalley, who set the LOCALiQ Series scoring record with a 12-under par 60 in late August, missed the cut in his PGA Tour debut at the 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open that occured in February. He is fifth on the LOCALiQ Series points list, having placed in the top 10 in three of the four events this season.
Oshrine, a Korn Ferry Tour member this season, played a pair of events on the Mackenzie Tour last season. He qualified for this event on March 9 before the COVID outbreak. Oshrine graduated from Duke in 2017 after helping the Blue Devils to the ACC title that season.
Long, who is coming off a breakout year on Tour that saw him finish 31st on the FedEx Cup points list, tees off at 7:10 a.m. on Thursday. Blaum is off at 11:40 a.m Thursday, Oshrine at 12:50 p.m., while Smalley and Roach are paired together for the 1:10 p.m. tee time.
Golf Channel has live coverage from 3-6 p.m. ET on Thursday Friday, while NBC has coverage in the same time slots on Saturday and Sunday.
