DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's basketball head coach
Kara Lawson has rounded out her staff for the 2020-21 campaign with the hiring of Sarah Wilkinson for the role of special assistant.
Wilkinson will join newly hired assistant coaches
Beth Cunningham,
Winston Gandy and
Tia Jackson for her first season with the Blue Devils. Lawson also retained
Kate Senger (Director of Operations),
Bobby Sorrell (Executive Administrative Assistant to the Head Coach),
Selena Castillo (Content Development Specialist) and
Ted Kim (Video Coordinator) from the previous staff.
"We have worked diligently to complete our staff these past few weeks," said Lawson. "I love the mix of backgrounds, experience and passion. The way this group will be able to comprehensively support the players in our program was the driving factor in their hirings. I can't wait to get started."
Previously with the Milwaukee Bucks as a basketball operations intern, Wilkinson spent the last 11 months in the NBA. She performed numerous duties within the front office assisting with the basketball operations, scouting, analytics, and player enrichment departments among other duties.
"I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to join the Duke women's basketball program," said Wilkinson. "Duke is not only elite in academics, but athletics as well. I have followed Kara's career for years and have so much respect for the path she has taken. I am looking forward to working with her and learning from her and the rest of the staff. It's an honor to join the Duke family!"
Prior to joining the Bucks, Wilkinson was a graduate assistant with the Florida women's basketball team for two seasons (2017-18, 2018-19). She obtained a Master of Science in Sport Management: Sport Law during her stay in Gainesville. Wilkinson coordinated all community service events for the team, oversaw the student managers and assisted the coaches in the office and on the court, among other duties with the Gators.
"Sarah stands out because of her focus, preparation and work ethic," said Lawson. "She has a balanced background as a manager during her time as an undergrad, a graduate assistant and then spending time with the Milwaukee Bucks this past season. We are thrilled to have her join Duke women's basketball and believe she will be a great asset for our players and staff."
Wilkinson, a 2017 graduate of the University of Tennessee, was a three-year student manager with the Lady Vol women's basketball program. She received a degree in Sport Management along with a minor in Business Administration.
