1984 – Women's Golf –Dan Brooks was hired as the head coach of the Duke women's golf program. He has gone on to lead Duke to seven NCAA Championships, 29 ACC Championships and 137 team victories with the Blue Devils.
2003 – Women's Golf –Virada Nirapathpongporn won the U.S. Women's Amateur by defeating Jane Park, 2-and-1, at the par-71, 6,368-yard Philadelphia Country Club.
2008 – Women's Golf –Amanda Blumenherst won the U.S. Women's Amateur by defeating Azahara Munoz, 2-an-1, in the 26-hole match play final at the 6,516-yard, par-72 Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
2012 – Track & Field – Former Duke All-American Shannon Rowbury placed sixth overall in the women's 1500 meter finals at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Rowbury recorded a time of 4:11.26, just over a second behind the winner. At the time, the sixth-place finish was the highest by an American woman in the 1500 meter event at the Olympics.
August 13
2012 – Men's Basketball – Led by head coach Mike Krzyzewski, the U.S. men's basketball team won its second of three consecutive gold medals under Coach K by defeating Spain in the gold medal game in London, 107-100.
2013 – Fencing – Former Duke fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad became the first Blue Devil to medal at the 2016 Olympic Games, claiming bronze with Team USA in the women's team sabre competition at the Carioca Arena 3 in Rio. Muhammad and teammates Monica Aksamit, Dagmara Wozniak and Mariel Zagunis defeated Italy 45-30 in the third-place match to earn the first women's medal in fencing by Americans in Rio. Muhammad outscored her Italian opponents 10-8 in the match to help the U.S. win all nine rounds. The bronze medal marked the first for Muhammad. The 2007 Duke graduate also made history in Rio as the first U.S. athlete in any sport to compete in hijab at the Olympics.
August 14
2016 – Men's Basketball – In a 100-97 in over France that allowed Team USA to clinch the No. 1-seed heading into the elimination round at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, former Blue Devil Kyrie Irving tied the U.S. Olympics record with 12 assists. Irving finished with 10 points and 12 dimes for the double-double.
August 15
2017 – Men's Basketball – Marvin Bagley III, the consensus No. 1 player in the high school class of 2018 before reclassifying to the class of 2017 and assuming the same position atop player rankings, signed a financial aid agreement with Duke University. He went on to be named the ACC Player of the Year as a freshman that season at Duke, finishing as just the third player to lead the conference in scoring, rebounding and shooting percentage in a single season.
2018 – Men's Basketball – RJ Barrett(34 points) and Zion Williamson (29 points) make their Duke debuts in an exhibition game in Toronto, Ontario as part of the 2018 Duke Canada Tour. The Blue Devils beat Ryerson University, 86-67, in front of a capacity crowd in Barrett's hometown.
August 16
2016 – Men's Golf – Then rising sophomore Alex Smalley rolled in a par putt on the 18th hole to secure a one-stroke victory in the stroke play portion of the 116th U.S. Amateur Championship at Oakland Hills CC in Michigan. Smalley finished 7-under to post the second-lowest 36-hole score in U.S. Amateur Championship history.
2016 – Track & Field – Former Blue Devils star Shannon Rowbury finished fourth in the women's 1500 meter finals at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, clocking in with a time of 4:11.05. Rowbury advanced to the finals two days earlier after placing third in her semifinal heat.
2017 – Women's Golf – Leona Maguire was named the winner of the Mark H McCormack Medal as the leading women's golfer in the 2016 and 2017 World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
