DURHAM, N.C. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) has announced the 2019-20 All-American Scholars with Duke standouts
Jaravee Boonchant,
Gina Kim and
Erica Shepherd recognized with this prestigious honor.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.
For the third straight year, Boonchant has earned All-American Scholar honors, after competing in five events on the season and totaling a 72.31 stroke average. She notched three straight top-six finishes, including a third-place ledger at the Tar Heel Invitational where she shot seven-under-par, 209. Boonchant also placed tied for fourth at the East Lake Cup and had a tied for sixth placement at the Windy City Collegiate Classic. The Bangkok, Thailand product registered a team-best nine rounds of even or under par. Earlier this summer, Boonchant received CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American. Â
Kim, who is from Chapel Hill, N.C., received honors for the second consecutive season, after collecting a 72.88 stroke average. She totaled two top-20 finishes on the season, including a tied for 11th finish at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in the season opener with rounds of 73, 70 and 72 for a one-under-par, 215. Kim turned in seven rounds of even or under par, including a season-best six-under, 66, in the second round of the Tar Heel Invitational. She led Duke with two eagles and hit 17 greens in regulation on two different occasions in the Tar Heel Invitational.
Shepherd, who hails from Greenwood, Ind., earned Scholar All-American accolades as a rookie with the Blue Devils. She saw action in all six tournaments and notched one top-10 finish. Shepherd posted a 2-0 mark in match play at the East Lake Cup, while collecting four rounds of even or under par on the year. She is a two-time USGA Champion and five-time AJGA Rolex Junior All-America.
Duke has featured three or more WGCA Scholar All-American selections for six straight seasons. Â
