DURHAM, N.C. – Duke redshirt senior centerÂ
Jack Wohlabaugh has been named to the preseason Outland Trophy Watch List, which is an award given annually to the nation's most outstanding interior lineman by the Football Writers Association of America.
Â
Wohlabaugh has already garnered preseason All-ACC fourth team nods byÂ
Athlon Sports this season, while also receiving honorable mention praise from the ACC just a season ago.
Â
The 6-4, 305-pound Akron, Ohio, product has played in 22 career games with 18 starts and 1,477 total snaps after transferring from Ohio State. Along with his All-ACC honorable mention accolade in 2019, Wohlabaugh also earned Duke's Dan "Tiger" Hill Award as the most outstanding offensive lineman after anchoring an offensive line that ranked fifth in the ACC in sacks allowed and 15th nationally in tackles for loss allowed.
Â
Last season he helped block for an offense that averaged 329.7 yards per game and 37 total touchdowns, while also paving the way for the Duke offense to register 40+ points in three-straight outings, and in four of five consecutive games.
Â
The Outland Trophy winner is chosen from three finalists who are a part of the annual FWAA All-America Team. The FWAA All-America Committee, after voting input from the entire membership, selects a 26-man first team and eventually the three Outland finalists. Committee members, then by individual ballot, select the winner. Only interior linemen on offense or defense are eligible for the award; ends are not eligible.
Â
The recipient of the 75th Outland Trophy will be announced in early December. The official presentation to the winner will be made in Omaha, Neb., at the Outland Trophy Awards Dinner sponsored by Werner Enterprises and produced by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee, scheduled for Jan. 13, 2021.
Duke is set to kick off the 2020 season at home on Saturday, Sept. 5 against Middle Tennessee. Game details have yet to be determined.
