DURHAM, N.C. – Duke swimming and diving head coach
Dan Colella announced the incoming freshman class for the 2020-21 season. With the announcement, GoDuke.com will be highlighting all 15 signees in the coming weeks.
Aleyna Ozkan will join the Duke swimming and diving team this fall, traveling from her home of Istanbul, Turkey. Ozkan primarily competes in the butterfly and freestyle.
"I know Duke is the best place for me to improve myself the most in and out of the pool," Ozkan said.
Ozkan attended Sezin High School and competed for Fenerbahce Sports Club under head coach Yasin Atil. She put together a stellar career on the international stage throughout her high school years. Currently, she is the Turkish record holder in the 50-meter butterfly and a member of the record-holding 400-meter medley relay.
She earned multiple medals in international competitions throughout her career. She was a bronze medalist in the 400 Mix Medley relay and was a 50 and 100 butterfly finalist at the 2019 European Junior Swimming Championships in Kaza. In addition, she received a bronze medal in the 50 fly and was a semifinalist in the 100 fly at the 2018 EJC European Junior Swimming Championships in Helsinki.
Aleyna Ozkan was born to Fatma and Reha Ozkan on February 1, 2002 in Houston, Texas. She has one older sister, Deniz, who swims at the University of Denver.
