Duke baseball play-by-play announcer Chris Edwards is giving fans an inside look at some of his memorable baseball moments throughout his eight years as the Voice of the Blue Devils. The events highlighted during this series are not meant to be a complete listing of all memorable accomplishments, but a sampling of great moments in Edwards' words.
:
After advancing to the first Super Regional in program history in 2018, the Duke Blue Devils entered the 2019 season with lofty expectations. However, due to early season injuries, the Blue Devils opened up ACC play with a 3-9 record.Â
Â
But as the calendar turned to April, Duke found its stride and started surging, posting a 13-2 record and, in the process, climbed back into the conversation as an NCAA Tournament club.Â
Â
As Selection Monday came around, the Blue Devils had their named called as one of the last four teams into the tournament and found themselves headed to Morgantown, W. Va., for postseason play.Â
Â
Duke defeated Texas A&M and host West Virginia in back-to-back nights to advance to the championship game, where the Blue Devils met Texas A&M for the second time in three days.Â
Â
The Blue Devils used a four-RBI game from
Kyle Gallagher and a stellar pitching night from the entire staff to down the Aggies, 4-1, and advance to the programs second straight Super Regional.Â
Â
Not only did the 2019 Regional Championship advance the Blue Devils deeper into the postseason but it also continue to elevate the program to heights not seen before.
