DURHAM, N.C. – Although his junior season was cut short,
Sean Sculley of Duke men's tennis
strung together an impressive 21-5 doubles record during the 2019-20 season.
During fall play, Sculley paired with senior
Nick Stachowiak and finished at 14-4 after making it to the ITA Carolina Regional Semifinals as well as the ITA National Fall Championships in Newport Beach, Calif. Picking up where they left off, the doubles duo went 7-1 in spring action with strong wins against No. 19 Illinois and No. 17 Tennessee.
With the season shortened, Sculley and Stachowiak finished at No. 8 in the Oracle/ITA doubles rankings. The Hilton Head, S.C., native appeared in one dual singles match as he blanked his opponent from Holy Cross (6-0, 6-0).
Sculley is set to graduate in May 2021 with a degree in psychology and a sociology minor while earning a Markets & Management (MMS) certificate.

What was your favorite memory from this season?
"Beating Illinois at home in front of a big crowd. That was a fun one. Also, my run with Nick at [ITA] All-Americans was pretty memorable, too."
How have you been spending your time since the season was cut short?
"This has definitely been an interesting time without being able to do a lot of normal activities. However, I am still able to work out, play tennis and golf, and keep up with the stock market."
Who is your favorite all-time tennis player and why?
"Favorite tennis player is Andy Roddick, mostly because he never backed down from any of the big four. He was able to win the US Open and be a strong representative for American tennis."
If you could go to one major tournament, which one would it be and why?
"Wimbledon – the traditions and prestige of the tournament leave it unmatched to any other in the tennis world."
What do you look forward to most next year?
"We have a lot to work on this upcoming year and looking forward to getting the team back together and working hard towards our next goal." Â
