DURHAM, N.C. – Duke baseball signees Jordan Walker and Collin Bosley-Smith both earned 2020 Gatorade State Baseball Player of the Year honors, announced earlier today. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.
The Blue Devils are one of seven schools nationally to have multiple signees win Gatorade State Baseball Player of the Year awards, while serving as one of three ACC schools--Clemson and Virginia--to boast multiple winners.
Walker, who was tabbed the Georgia Baseball Player of the Year, batted .457 with four home runs, 15 RBI and a 1.555 OPS for Decatur HS in 2020 before the season was cancelled. The nation's second-ranked prospect as ranked by Perfect Game, Walker has participated in a variety of major events, including the 2019 Perfect Game All-American Classic and the Major League Baseball High School All-Star Game.
Walker has maintained a 3.98 GPA in the classroom, while serving as a member of the National Honor Society. The Stone Mountain, Ga., native has donated his time as a peer tutor, while also volunteering as a youth baseball coach in his local community.
Bosley-Smith, who was tabbed the District of Columbia Baseball Player of the Year for a second consecutive year, sported a 1.120 ERA across his career with 164 strikeouts and an 18-6 record on the mound. The 64
th-best right-handed pitcher in the nation and top-ranked player in Washington, D.C., according to Perfect Game, participated in the Perfect Game National Showcase last June, while helping lead Wilson HS to DCSAA championship appearances in both 2018 and 2019.
Bosley-Smith has maintained a weighted 4.0 GPA in the classroom, and has volunteered locally with the ImpACTA Kids Foundation as a youth baseball coach. The Washington, D.C., native has also donated his time to multiple community service initiatives through his church.
