DURHAM, N.C. – After four years on the Duke men's tennis team,
Spencer Furman graduated with a psychology degree and a markets and management studies certificate.
Despite his senior season being cut short, Furman finished his career at Duke with a 57-44 singles record and a 59-26 mark in doubles. During his final year, he posted a 7-2 record in dual action with six wins coming at No. 4 singles. Paired up with junior
Luca Keist, Furman went 10-1 in doubles play and ranked 79th in the last Oracle/ITA doubles rankings.
The Seattle native was an All-ACC selection, an ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete and two-time member of the All-ACC Academic Team while earning a spot on the ACC Academic Honor Roll three years.
Following his time with the program, Furman took the time to reflect on some of his greatest memories and takeaways from his time as a Blue Devil.
What's your favorite memory with the men's tennis program?
"There is no one memory sticks out. The thing I will miss the most is just being around my best friends every day. Every practice, team meal and competition meant the world to me, because I was doing it all with my brothers."
What will you miss the most about being a student-athlete at Duke?
"Being able to walk around and take in Duke's campus. It's a special place."
If you could describe your experience as a Blue Devil in one word, what would it be?
"An honor."
What does it mean to you to have played on the team at Duke?
"It means the world – it was the biggest honor of my life. I know how many exceptional people have passed through the program. I am at a loss for words when I think about being another member of such a prestigious group."
What is the biggest lesson you've learned from head coach Ramsey Smith?
"Along with being my coach, Ramsey was a mentor. Honestly, he taught me too much to be able to say one thing." Â
