DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's tennis team will add transfer
Georgia Drummy to the squad for the 2020-21 season.
Drummy comes to Duke after spending the last two seasons at Vanderbilt.
"We couldn't be more excited to be adding Georgia to the Duke women's tennis family," head coach
Jamie Ashworth said. "She has shown that she can compete with the best players in the country and we are looking forward to her being a Blue Devil. Her work ethic, dedication to being a great teammate, commitment to excellence and academic prowess are all character traits that fit in incredibly well with our team. She is going to be a tremendous asset to the entire Duke community both on and off the court."
Drummy hails from Dublin, Ireland, attended Boca Preparatory International School and trained at Evert Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, Fla., prior to her time at Vanderbilt.
"I am extremely excited to be joining Duke in the fall of 2020, both from an academic and sporting perspective," Drummy said.
She owns her highest singles ranking of No. 28 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and No. 22 in doubles.
As a freshman, Drummy was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and All-SEC second team with an impressive 19-7 overall singles record. She claimed the No. 1 spot in the singles lineup with a nine-match win streak and earned four victories over ranked opponents including upsetting then No. 12 Sara Daavettila of North Carolina in only her fifth collegiate match.
Vanderbilt finished ranked No. 8 in the nation in 2019 following their NCAA run to the quarterfinals.
During her second year with the Commodores, Drummy played to a 6-3 record and went 3-1 in conference play before the season was canceled due to COVID-19. Drummy helped guide her team to finish No. 15 in the ITA team rankings.
Drummy also has extensive tennis experience on the international level as well, competing in the 2016 Australian Open Juniors, 2018 Wimbledon Juniors, 2018 French Open Juniors, 2018 US Open Juniors and the 2018 Youth Olympics.
