DURHAM, N.C. – With campus closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the Duke women's soccer team are at their respective homes as the squad adjusts to online class. Check out to see how the Blue Devil juniors are doing in this week's DWS check-ins.
Tess Boade – Jr. Midfielder
Checking in from: Denver, Colo.
What are you doing to stay active during the quarantine?:
"I'm super fortunate to be checking in from Colorado because it makes staying active a lot easier, since Colorado is so outdoorsy. Earlier this week, I actually went up to the mountain and did some hiking, which was super fun and a change of pace from sitting in my living room."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"The transition to online classes has been pretty difficult, but I think the Duke professors have done a really good job of being accommodating and making this transition as easy as possible."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"As a team, we've been trying to figure out creative ways to stay connected. That includes zoom meetings and virtual games."
What is one thing you miss about being on campus?
"The thing I miss most about being on campus is seeing my teammates and best friends everyday. I hope everyone is staying health and safe and people are finding fun things to do during this quarantine."
Caitlin Cosme – Jr. Defender

What are you doing to stay active during the quarantine?:
"It's been hard to stay super active because I'm in the epicenter of this virus, but nonetheless I have been able to workout."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"I think we can all agree that this transition to online classes is not idea, but I do think that the profressors at Duke have been very accommodating and understanding of everyone's situation and are trying to make it as easy as possible."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"Being able to zoom with my teammates has been really awesome. Currently we are tying to figure out ways to make zoom fun with cool activities to do with everybody. I think it's really great to stay connected and stay engaged with everybody."
What is one thing you miss about being on campus?
"Nothing really beats being at Duke and being on campus. The thing that I miss the most is walking around and seeing everybody."
Mia Gyau – R-Jr. Midfielder/Defender

What are you doing to stay active during the quarantine?:
"I've being staying active by going to the track and riding the stationary bike. I also take my dog for walks and play wall-ball."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"I've adjusted to online classes pretty well. I've tried to make a schedule and set up a work space that's pretty consistent in order to get my tasks done for the day."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"I've been staying connected with my teammates by doing zoom calls and facetime calls, while also just sending each other funny messages."
What is one thing you miss about being on campus?
"I miss the interactions with everybody that I normally have. This time of the year, the flowers are really pretty so I feel like I'm missing out on that."
What is most fun thing you've done while quarantining?
"I am reteaching myself how to play the clarinet. I used to play it in middle school and I'm knitting a blanket."
Brooke Heinsohn – R-Jr. Goalkeeper

What are you doing to stay active during the quarantine?:
"I've been taking some walks around to get acclimated."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"I think it's been well so far. It was tough in the beginning but I think my professors have a pretty good grasp on what we're supposed to do now."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"To stay up-to-date with my teammates, we continue to check in on zoom weekly. We try to text and call each other as much as possible. I miss them so much and I wish I were on the field instead of being inside and practicing social distancing."
Taylor Mitchell – Jr. Defender
Checking in from: Tarzana, Calif.
What are you doing to stay active during the quarantine?:
"It's been a series of trial and error in figuring out how to stay active without having access to a full gym. Thankfully I do have a small gym at home with some basic conditioning and some wiehgts, which have been super helpful during this time. I've been finding different areas around my house where I can get touches on the ball to be as prepared as I can."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"Online classes have definitely taken a bit of adjusting just because of the time difference. Being on the west coast but going to school on the east coast, I do have to wake up a lot earlier to attend my classes, but I am done earlier in the day which is always super nice."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"I've been keeping up with my teammates through GroupMe, Snapchat and our weekly zoom calls, which I look forward to every week. It's nice to see how everyone is doing and make sure everyone is doing okay."
What is one thing you miss about being on campus?
"I miss my team so much because they always make my day better."
What is most fun thing you've done while quarantining?
"The most fun thing I've done during quarantine has been our family game night, we rotate who gets to pick the game that week. We just sit around and it's always a great time with my mom and my dad."
Lily Nabet – Jr. Midfielder

What are you doing to stay active during the quarantine?:
"One thing I've been doing to stay active is going out in my front line and doing some technical work and some fitness."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"With online class, it's been pretty easy to adjust. All of my professors have been really helpful."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"Staying connected with my teammates has been pretty easy. We've been using zoom or facetime, and we talk about once a day.
What is one thing you miss about being on campus?
"One thing that I really miss about campus is just going to classes and seeing a lot of my classmates and teammates on campus."
What is most fun thing you've done while quarantining?
The most fun thing I've done during the quarantine has been taking my dog on a walk or either just doing my trainings.
Karlie Paschall – Jr. Defender

What are you doing to stay active during the quarantine?:
"I've been working out in my home along with taking walks with my family and dog."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"I'm adjusting to classes as best as I can. I actually enjoy going to class, so having them online is kind of a bummer."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"Luckily the team has been able to stay in contact by having zoom meetings three or four times a week just to hang out, catch up and see each other."
What is one thing you miss about being on campus?
"I miss Duke a ton. I miss my team and I miss all my friends there."
What is most fun thing you've done while quarantining?
"The most fun thing I done in quarantine is play game with my parents every night. We'll make dinner together and play card games and board games."

"I've been working out in my home along with taking walks with my family and dog."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"The transition to online classes has been super smooth. The Duke professors are being very accommodating with whatever a student needs."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"We are keeping in touch through zoom calls and daily Snapchats, but it's not the same."
What is one thing you miss about being on campus?
"My favorite part about Duke is seeing my teammates everyday and being able to play the sport that we love."

What are you doing to stay active during the quarantine?:
"I've just tried to do some fun at-home workout classes and also walk my dogs."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"The transition to online classes has definitely been tough, but the teachers have been awesome and we're almost done."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"Our team has done weekly zoom calls to catch up and chat, and we've also done fun activities over zoom."
What is one thing you miss about being on campus?
"I miss seeing my teammates and friends around, while also being in the locker room and having fun."
