DURHAM, N.C. – After spending two years with Duke men's tennis,
Samir Agadi is set to graduate this May with a bachelor's degree in International Comparative Studies. Upon graduation, Agadi will make the move to New York City and work for EY Parthenon in the M&A Strategy Consulting practice.
During his two seasons with the squad, Agadi put together a 3-6 singles record while going 2-1 in doubles action. He notched his first collegiate dual win on Feb. 9 against NC Central and earned his second career victory with a 6-1, 6-3 feat versus Holy Cross.
Following his time with the program, Agadi took the time to reflect on some of his greatest memories and takeaways from his time as a Blue Devil.
What's your favorite memory with the men's tennis program?
"My favorite memory is when the team rushed the court after Spencer [Furman] clinched the match against Arizona State. We were down, 0-3, and the last four matches were in a third set. Vin [Lin] and Nick [Stachowiak] came back from being down in their third set, Sean pulled through in his, and then Spencer sealed his at the end. It was super exciting and the environment was unreal. In the locker room, the coaches came in and we all just jumped around. That was one of my first memories since joining the program, but it has been one of my favorites. It was a huge, nail-biting win that I'll never forget."
What will you miss the most about being a student-athlete at Duke?
"Decides the gear and free meals – kidding!! Honestly, I think I will miss my teammates the most. You spend a lot of time with your teammates whether it be in practice, classes, team meals, workouts and away trips. I've made a lot of memories with the guys during my time on the team and they have been a huge part of my Duke experience. It was nice that we have been a smaller team so we are all very close. I'm super grateful for them."
If you could describe your experience as a Blue Devil in one word, what would it be?
"Incredible."
What does it mean to you to have played on the team at Duke?
"Playing on the Duke men's tennis team has been one of the greatest experiences and opportunities of my life. It has given me lifelong friends and taught me so many things. I have grown so much, not only on the court but also off the court ever since I joined the program. There is a strong sense of team spirit and brotherhood on the team, and I am forever grateful to the coaches for letting me be a part of it."
What is the biggest lesson you've learned from head coach Ramsey Smith?
"Ramsey is one of the nicest people I have ever met and the biggest values I've learned from him is being kind and having respect for others. He has always emphasized that, and I think it is very important, not only on the court but especially off-court. He has shown that both improve team culture and create better chemistry."
