DURHAM, N.C. – GoDuke.com recently checked in with Duke volleyball freshman
Lizzie Fleming to look back at the 2019 season and to see how she's adjusting to online classes.
Where are you now?
"I am currently at home in San Francisco with my family!"
What are you doing to stay active?
" Our trainer Coach Megan (Rottler) provided us with a workout sheet to follow during the week that all of us have been doing! I have also been going on lots of walks with my dog to get some fresh air."
How are you adjusting to online classes?
"All of the professors at Duke have been nothing but amazing during this transition to online classes. They have made the transition seamless and have been super understanding and accommodating to student's needs."
What was your favorite memory from this season?
"My favorite memory from this season was definitely our win against NC State because it was filled with energy and competitive spirit and showed the true character of our team as we fought back to take the W after being down 0-2."
What do you miss most about being at Duke?
"I miss so many things about Duke but I miss my teammates and DUVB family the most. I miss being in the gym with them every day as well as being together outside of volleyball. But we still get to zoom and FaceTime all the time!"
During her rookie season, Fleming saw action in all 31 matches as a 6-3 middle blocker. She finished the season ranked sixth on the team with 141 kills and just 29 errors for a .289 attack percentage.
The San Francisco, Calif., racked up 18 service aces, the second-best total on the team, and added 114 total blocks (1.16 blocks/set) to rank second on the team.
Fleming recorded a season-high 13 blocks in Duke's five-set thriller win over NC State in Cameron Indoor Stadium and added five or more kills in 17 matches with her season high coming against St. John's (10).
