DURHAM, N.C. – With campus closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the Duke women's soccer team are at their respective homes as the squad adjusts to online class. Check out to see how the Blue Devil sophomores are doing in this week's DWS check-ins.
Delaney Graham – So. Defender
Checking in from: Atlanta, Ga.
What are you doing to stay active during the quarantine?
"I've been doing my best to stay active by going to the field every day. I've been training with my sister, getting touches and doing sprints—a lot of fun stuff."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"The transition to online classes has been a little bit weird. Most of my classes are lectures so I've just been able to keep taking notes like normal, but I found it more difficult to stay focused because there aren't eyes on me like normal. I just have to finish my finals strong."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"I've been staying in touch with everyone through FaceTime and texting. We have a fun Snapchat group that we use a lot and we do weekly Zoom calls where we all just catch up and play games, so that's been fun. I miss everyone a lot but hopefully we'll be able to see each other soon."
What is most fun thing you've done while quarantining?
"My mom and I bake a cake every week and we do a different flavor each time. Those have been really fun to make and to eat as well. They've been really good."
What is one thing you miss about being on campus?
"The thing I miss most about being on campus is being able to live with my best friends. Coming back from class to see them, so it's been really difficult to be apart from them. I'm looking to being able to do that in the fall. I hope everyone is doing great and I miss my team a lot."
Marykate McGuire – So. Forward

What are you doing to stay active during the quarantine?
"During the quarantine so far I've been able to go to the field and get some touches while also doing some conditioning, which has been really good."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"Classes have been good so far, definitely different but it's all going well."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"Our team is staying connected very well through texting, FaceTime, Snapchat and Zoom of course, which has been really good. I miss everybody."
What is most fun thing you've done while quarantining?
"My favorite thing that I've done during quarantine has probably been spending time with my family. It's been really nice."
Mackenzie Pluck – So. Forward
Checking in from: North Wells, Pa.
What are you doing to stay active during the quarantine?
"I've been utilizing the outdoors. Whenever the weather is nice, I'm running sprints up and down my neighborhood, which has been fun. I've been doing some technical work with my sister in our driveway, and I've been able to spend a lot of time with her."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"Online classes have been fine. As time progesses, we've been learning a lot more on how to be efficient and learn the most with the situation that we have. The professors have been super helpful."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"Overall we've just been using social media, while texting and group messaging. We have a couple Zoom calls twice a week where we just catch up with each other, play games and have a good time."
What is most fun thing you've done while quarantining?
"I've been having loads of fun. The most fun time has probably been family time. We've all been away, so coming home from college, high school and middle school and having our family together has been the most fun."
What is one thing you miss about being on campus?
"I definitely miss the café and crepe place. I also miss my teammates and spending time with them. Grinding through the spring is always something that we love. We get to bond and get closer, it's our offseason so it's the time to do it."
Sydney Simmons – So. Midfielder

What are you doing to stay active during the quarantine?
"I've been doing running and ball work on a field that I found access to."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"Adjusting to online classes wasn't all that bad. My teachers have been really understanding and we've kind of just embraced all of the hiccups that we encountered."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"Connecting with my team has been fun. We have a couple of Zoom meetings a week. We started doing this superlative thing where we anonymously vote for people and we announce the winners at the end of the week, so that's been a lot of fun."
What is most fun thing you've done while quarantining?
"The most fun thing I've done during quarantine is probably just flying since I'm home. I'm trying to finish getting my private pilot license."
What is one thing you miss about being on campus?
"The thing I miss most about school is definitely my friends. I miss soccer and I hate working out alone, so this quarantine really sucks. I'm ready to be back around people."
Holly Stam – So. Goalkeeper
Checking in from: Ipswich, Mass.
What are you doing to stay active during the quarantine?:
"To stay active, I Peleton a lot. I also go to the field and do
Megan Rottler's (strength) bodyweight lifts. I do sprints and play with the ball with my feet just to try and get better there."
How have you adjusted to online classes?
"It's honestly just checking your email and being responsive in your home. You have the time to do your assignments now that a lot of things are canceled. Enjoying the process of doing your work is key."
How are you staying connected with your teammates?
"A lot of group chats, a lot of Zoom calls and a lot of Snapchats."
What is most fun thing you've done while quarantining?
"The most fun thing I've done during quarantine is get a puppy."
What is one thing you miss about being on campus?
"I miss being with my teammates and being in an environment that's competitive. I miss being able to hang out with everybody and seeing everybody in person."
