DURHAM, N.C. – A number of former Duke women's soccer stars are on the grind in the professional ranks in the National Women's Soccer League.
Imani Dorsey is set to begin her third year in the NWSL as a member of the Sky Blue FC.
Dorsey, the 2018 NWSL Rookie of the Year, followed up her rookie season with an impressive sophomore year in 2019. In her second year with Sky Blue FC, she appeared in 23 of the 24 total regular season games, all coming as starts.
The 2017 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and United Soccer Coaches National Scholar-Athlete of the Year tallied two goals on the season and clocked in a total of 1959 minutes of action.
This past fall, Dorsey was called up to the U.S. Women's National Team as one of three first-time call-ups on the training camp roster. She competed for the squad's final two matches of 2019.
Q&A with Dorsey:
What is your favorite Duke memory?
ID: My favorite memory at Duke was winning the ACC Regular Season Championship at Virginia in the final minutes of the game. It was an incredibly exciting game with an awesome goal scored by Kat McDonald. We went undefeated in conference and won the ACC. It was such a special and exciting moment with my teammates.
What makes Duke such a special place?
ID: I love the environment and the feel of the Duke campus. What made Duke such a special place for me was definitely my team, my teammates, the coaching staff and the Duke community overall. There's some really special people there and I have so many fond memories with truly my best friends. We went through so many different things with them. I just thank
Robbie Church for bringing together an incredible group of girls every year and just forcing us to work hard on and off the field, while growing to be well-rounded young women. I really appreciate that.
How have you been staying active while quarantining?
ID: Our coaching staff is definitely keeping us busy. We have plenty of workouts that we can do in our apartment. There are lots of body weight stuff and rounds training. I've been having lots of video sessions and watching a lot of film, which is really developing the mental aspect of my game. I'm just making sure I'm taking care of myself, both mentally and physically. I've been doing lots of meditation, yoga and reading. I'm just trying to develop all of the aspects of my life to keep myself nice and busy.
Any message to Duke fans and community?
ID: I want everybody to stay safe and stay healthy. Take care of yourselves and take care of each other.
