Duke men's basketball play-by-play announcer David Shumate is giving fans an inside look at some of his memorable hoops moments throughout his three years as the Voice of the Blue Devils. The events highlighted during this series are not meant to be a complete listing of all memorable accomplishments, but a sampling of great moments in Shumate's words.
"While
Zion Williamson and
RJ Barrett claimed most of the headlines for the Blue Devils during the 2018-19 season, one of my favorite moments came from another freshman –
Cam Reddish -- and the day he silenced more than 11,000 in Tallahassee. Entering the much-anticipated showdown between No. 1 Duke and No. 13 Florida State, Reddish was enduring a difficult stretch. He'd only scored in double figures twice in the previous six games, and he hadn't made more than four three-pointers since he torched the nets in Cameron for seven almost two months earlier.
"With Williamson unable to go in the second half after suffering and eye injury in the first stanza, Reddish scored 16 of his 23 points after intermission including four of his five made three's on the day – with his fifth long ball coming just before the buzzer to give Duke a ninth consecutive win, 80-78.
"His teammates called him "Cam Fam" and on that day with their second-leading scorer on the bench, he was the lift the Brotherhood needed."
