DURHAM, N.C.— The 2019-20 Duke women's golf season came to an abrupt end in March as the Blue Devils were heading to compete in the Valspar Augusta Invitational. Duke was playing some of its best golf of the season and were excited about the possibilities that lied ahead during the postseason. Â
Belac Named ANNIKA Award Finalist

Ana Belac was tabbed one of 10 finalists for the 2020 ANNIKA Award. The award recognizes the most outstanding Division I collegiate golfers for the 2019-20 season as voted on by their fellow players, coaches and the golf media.
Belac, a product of Portoroz, Slovenia, had collected a 71.85 stroke average in five events in the abbreviated season. She notched two top-five, three top-10 and four top-20 finishes on the year. She turned in her second collegiate victory at the East Lake Cup as she birdied five of her final seven holes on her way to logging a three-under-par, 69, to finish in a tie for first.
In the final Golfweek individual rankings, Belac was the top-rated senior nationally and ranked No. 3 overall. Â
Duke Claims Impressive Victory at Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge
Duke opened the spring season in impressive fashion as the Blue Devils claimed the team title at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge against nine top 10 teams and one of the best fields of the season. Â
Following a solid 11-under-par, 273, in the second round, the Blue Devils held an eight-stroke lead heading into the final round. Duke carded a one-under-par, 283, and collected a seven-stroke victory at the 6,017-yard, par 71 Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
In 10 appearances at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, it marked the first team title for the Blue Devils and the 137th career victory for Duke head coach
Dan Brooks, which continues to lead all NCAA Division I head coaches. Â
Duke carded rounds of 291, 273 and 283 for a five-under, 847, which broke the previous Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge tournament record by nine strokes. Southern California (854), Texas (855), UCLA (858), Arizona State (859), Kent State (868), Stanford (869), Wake Forest (870), Auburn (872) and Oregon (876) rounded out the top 10 teams.

Ana Belac in the top five of the individual leaderboard as Wang was tied for second and Belac placed tied for fifth. Â
Wang Has Impressive Back-to-Back Tournaments
Junior
Miranda Wang was playing the best golf of her collegiate career when the season was cut short. She collected a 71.83 stroke average in her last two tournaments, which included a tied for second finish at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge with rounds of 74, 66 and 68 for a five-under-par, 208. Wang, who is from Beijing, China, carded 28 birdies over her final two tournaments. She also tied for 29th finish at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate with rounds of 74, 77 and 72 for a 54-hole score 223. Wang led Duke on the season with 55 birdies.
Belac Ties for First at East Lake Cup
Led by a five-under-par ledger over her final seven holes, Duke senior
Ana Belac earned co-medalist accolades and the Blue Devils received the No. 1 overall seed at the 2019 East Lake Cup, which was played at historic East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga.
Belac, a native of Portoroz, Slovenia, earned her second individual title as she collected a tournament-best eight birdies to finish with a three-under-par, 69, and tied with Wake Forest's Vanessa Knecht. After missing Duke's last tournament as she was competing at LPGA Stage II Qualifying, Belac collected three birdies over her first eight holes and made the turn at one-under, 35. Â
After a bogey on No. 10 and double-bogey on No. 11, Belac dropped to two-over-par. Her putter started to get hot as she rolled in a 20-footer on No. 12, four-footer on No. 13 and two 18-foot birdies on No. 15 and No. 16 to move to two-under-par with two holes to play. Belac missed a birdie putt on No. 17, but then on the par five 18th she hit her second shot to within 25 yards of the pin. She hit her 54-degree wedge to inches and sank the birdie to finish at three-under, 69, and a tie for first. Belac hit 14 greens, 10 fairways and had 30 putts on the day.
The win for Belac was her second over her four years with the Blue Devils and the first came exactly two years ago at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C.
As a team, Duke featured three golfers in the top six and shot a two-under-par, 286, to finish two shots ahead of Arizona (288). Wake Forest (292) and Auburn (295) rounded out the field. The Blue Devils received the No. 1 seed in match.  Along with Belac in the top six for Duke was junior

Four Blue Devils Receive ANWA Invites
Four members of the Duke women's golf program were slated to kick off the 2020 Augusta National Women's Amateur (ANWA). Senior

Erica Shepherd all had accepted invitations. Â
It marked the second straight year of the prestigious event located at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. All four Blue Devils were set to make their second consecutive appearance in the amateur tournament. The four Duke student-athletes that accepted invitations was tied for the second-most in the field. Â
An international field of 72 women amateurs was set to compete over 54 holes of stroke play. A cut was going to take place after 36 holes, advancing the leading 30 players to the final round at Augusta National Golf Club.
In 2019, Duke featured five golfers in the inaugural event with Belac, Boonchant, Kim, Shepherd and recent Blue Devil graduate
Virginia Elena Carta. Both Boonchant and Shepherd advanced to the final round where they finished tied for 12th and 23rd, respectively.

Kim Selected to Arnold Palmer Cup Squad

Gina Kim was one of six committee selections for the 2020 United States Arnold Palmer Cup squad. The Arnold Palmer Cup is slated for July 3-5 at Lahinch Golf Club, but during these unprecedented times they are unsure if the matches will be held as scheduled, postponed or canceled. Â

Ana Belac helped lead the International Team to a 33.5-26.5 victory over the United States. It will mark the third straight summer Duke has featured a golfer in the annual event as

In the Final Individual Rankings
In final Golfweek Individual rankings, two Duke women's golfers closed the shortened season ranked in the top 14 nationally. Senior
Ana Belac was the top-rated senior at No. 3, while junior
Jaravee Boonchant was No. 14. Duke was one of only two programs nationally to feature two golfers in the top 14 of the rankings. Â
Duke also had sophomore
Gina Kim (No. 46) and junior
Miranda Wang (No. 106) ranked in the top 110 nationally.
Duke Finishes No. 4 in Team Rankings
For the 21st straight season, Duke finished in the top 10 of the Golfweek national rankings as the Blue Devils closed the year at No. 4 under the direction of head coach
Dan Brooks. Â
Duke has now finished the season in the top five of the Golfweek ledger in seven out of the last eight years. The Blue Devils and Southern California are the only two programs to place in the top five of the national rankings seven times over the last eight years – Duke (7), Southern California (7), UCLA (6), Stanford (4) and Alabama (4). Â
The Blue Devils concluded the shortened 2019-20 campaign with one victory, two third place finishes and were first in stroke play qualifying at the East Lake Cup. Â
Birdies for Babies Program Raises over $10,000
With the abrupt ending of the 2019-20 golf seasons, the Duke men's and women's golf programs raised $10,479.25 this year for the Duke Children's Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units. Through three years of the Birdies for Babies program, which was created by 2019 Duke graduate
Virginia Elena Carta, the Blue Devils have raised $47,302 to go towards the Duke Children's Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units. Â
Those looking to support Duke's partnership with Duke Children's can make pledges per birdie. Pledges will start at $0.50 and high pledge increments are welcome. If the Blue Devils register an eagle (counts as two birdies), albatross (three birdies) and hole-in-one (four birdies) they will count as stated. Each pledge will receive an autographed photo of the Duke women's golf team.
Brooks Gets Call from CGA Hall of Fame
The Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) announced that Duke head coach
Dan Brooks will be inducted into the CGA Hall of Fame. Brooks will be inducted along with Dorathy Dotger Thigpen. The original date of the induction was to be April 8, 2020 at Hope Valley Country Club in Durham, N.C., but the date will be rescheduled.
Brooks recently completed his 36th season with the Blue Devils has captured a remarkable seven national titles with the Blue Devils in the last 22 seasons, in addition to 20 career ACC championships and 137 team wins – the most of any women's golf coach in NCAA Division I history.
Brooks, a native of Baker City, Ore., is a seven-time National Coach of the Year and 15-time ACC Coach of the Year selection. His seven national championships are the most by any Division I head coach in history. Brooks has led Duke to 13 top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championship since 2004 and 17 total top five placements in school history. He has guided 19 individuals to ACC crowns, 36 All-ACC selections and 24 All-Americans. Â
An Oregon State graduate, Brooks is also a member of the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) and Duke Hall of Fame.
White Presents Carta with NCAA Top 10 Award

Virginia Elena Carta with the 2020 NCAA Top 10 Award in Anaheim, Calif., in January at the NCAA Convention. Carta was also one of nine finalists for NCAA Woman of the Year earlier this fall. Â
The NCAA Top 10 award recognizes former student-athletes for their successes on the field, in the classroom and in the community. The recipients — who completed their athletics eligibility during the 2018-19 academic year.
Earning the 2016 NCAA Women's Golf Individual title in her freshman campaign, the four-time All-ACC selection capped her Blue Devil legacy with the 2019 NCAA Team championship in May, helping lead the Blue Devils to their seventh NCAA title in school history. She is one of only four Duke golfers to win both an NCAA team and individual title. She finished her Duke career with 43 rounds of even or under par, including 15 rounds in the 60s.
Carta's success outside of the course are perhaps even more impressive. She spearheaded the creation of the Birdies for Babies program at Duke in her junior season to help raise money for the Duke Children's Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units. After the initial two years of the program, it raised $36,822.75 to help the children.
Blue Devils Visit the White House in November
Student-athletes and staff of the Duke women's golf program traveled to Washington D.C., in November to be honored for NCAA Champions Day at the White House. On Friday morning, the Blue Devils arrived at the White House and gathered in the Blue Room before meeting President Donald J. Trump. The squad toured various rooms in the White House including the Oval Office. Â
The visit to the White House marked the third in program history as the Blue Devils received an invitation July 12, 2005 and Sept. 21, 2007 from President George W. Bush after winning the 2005, 2006 and 2007 NCAA Championships under the direction of Brooks. Brooks has guided Duke to seven NCAA titles over his 36 years in Durham.
Kim Practices with Curtis Cup Squad

Gina Kim was named one of 12 golfers to participate in a practice session in advance of the 2020 Curtis Cup Match as announced by the United States Golf Association (USGA) International Team Selection Committee. The session for prospective players will took place Dec. 15-17, 2019 at Loblolly in Hobe Sound, Fla.
A biennial competition, the 41st Curtis Cup Match was originally contested June 12-14, 2020, at Conwy Golf Club in Caernarvonshire, Wales, but it will be postponed until 2021.
The United States squad will be captained by former Duke standout Sarah Ingram, who graduated in 1988. Ingram, a three-time U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion (1991, 1993, 1994) and a member of three USA Curtis Cup Teams (1992, 1994 and 1996). Ingram was a two-time All-American and four-year letter winner for the Blue Devils from 1985-1988.
