DURHAM, N.C. – 2011 Duke women's tennis alumna
Reka Zsilinszka was recently on NBC News for her work with COVID-19 patients in Philadelphia, Pa.
"Upon seeing this segment on NBC last night, I texted Reka and told her how proud the Duke Athletic Department and our team was of the work she is doing," head coach
Jamie Ashworth said. "She has always had a passion for helping people and like so many others in her industry, she is doing something she is truly passionate about and loves. A tremendous amount of thanks and gratitude goes out to Reka and all the doctors, nurses and healthcare workers who are putting themselves on the frontlines to protect our country. We will not move forward without the endless hours they are putting in and we hope that they know they are in our thoughts and prayers."
Zsilinszka is an emergency medicine physician at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after receiving her medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine.
During her playing time at Duke, Zsilinszka was a force on the court for the Blue Devils. Zsilinszka was a two-time All-America honoree in singles and was an integral part of Duke's 2009 NCAA Championship team title.
The Fayetteville, N.C., native went undefeated on court three in Duke's run in the 2009 NCAA Tournament and was named MVP for her efforts. She also advanced to the round of 16 in back-to-back seasons in the singles tournament.
With a 142-33 career ledger, Zsilinszka ranks third in Duke history and tied for seventh with the most singles wins in a single season with 41 (2008-09).
