JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Starting spring break in Florida, Duke men's tennis blanked North Florida, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Blue Devils improved to 13-2 on the season while the Ospreys were handed their second loss of the season, moving to 7-2 in their 2020 campaign.
Opening with strong doubles play, No. 79 Luca Keist and Spencer Furman were first off with a 6-2 feat on court two before freshmen Garrett Johns and Michael Heller clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory on court three.
With a 1-0 advantage heading into singles, Johns cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win on court five to earn his 12th dub of the season (12-1). Junior Edu Guell gave the Blue Devils a 3-0 lead, winning 6-3 in both sets at No. 2 singles. Furman secured the match on court four, defeating North Florida's Matt Carroll (6-3, 6-2) to up Duke's lead to 4-0.
Playing out the match, No. 105 Nick Stachowiak claimed the win on the top court with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph over UNF's Domink Barton (5-0). The Blue Devils went up 6-0 as No. 101 Andrew Zhang rolled past his opponent on court six with a 6-3, 6-1 win.
After winning the first set 7-5, Keist battled through a tiebreaker in set two to claim his fifth victory of the season, resulting in a sweep over the Ospreys (7-0).
The Blue Devils continue their Florida trip with a match at No. 28 Florida State on Friday, March 13 at 5:30 p.m. before heading to No. 21 Miami on Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m.
