DURHAM, N.C. – Following a 7-0 start to the 2020 dual season, Duke men's tennis cracked into the Tennis Channel/USTA College Tennis Top 25 at No. 21 and received votes in the Oracle/ITA rankings, as announced by the organizations on Wednesday. Four Blue Devils were also featured in the updated Oracle/ITA singles and doubles rankings.
Finishing at No. 11 in the final rankings of the fall, seniors
Nick Stachowiak and
Sean Sculley jumped to sixth in the rankings after a 3-0 mark at Duke's No. 1 doubles. The duo picked up the deciding doubles points in both matches over the weekend against No. 19 Illinois and Northwestern.
Freshmen
Michael Heller and
Andrew Zhang also improved in the doubles rankings, jumping from 20 spots to No. 22. The tandem claimed a 4-1 record in the fall and picked up a 6-4 win against Campbell at No. 3 this spring.
Zhang, who finished No. 117 the final singles rankings of the fall, climbed four spots to No. 113 following a 2-1 start to the spring. The rookie's two wins clinched the matches for Duke as Zhang gritted out a three-set win against Axel Labrunie and defeated Campbell's Mikael Rodriguez in two. Â
Duke returns to action this weekend against No. 17 Tennessee on Friday in the Sheffield Tennis Center before hosting Kentucky and NC Central in a doubleheader on Sunday.
