DURHAM, N.C. – The first computerized Oracle/ITA rankings for the 2020 season were announced Tuesday night as Duke men's tennis was slotted No. 19 of the top 50 teams in the country. One doubles team and two singles players were also selected for the latest rankings.
The Blue Devils are off to a 9-1 start in dual action with crucial wins against No. 19 Illinois and Kentucky, who was receiving votes, while dropping its only decision to No. 17 Tennessee.
Senior
Nick Stachowiak and junior
Sean Sculley moved one spot to No. 5 in the doubles rankings, continuing their strong season on the top court. The tandem remains unbeaten on Duke's No. 1 court with a 6-0 record.
Freshman
Andrew Zhang improved in the singles rankings, climbing 12 spots to No. 101 while Stachowiak entered the top 125 for the first time this spring, ranked 105th. Zhang holds a 3-1 ledger, primarily playing on court five, while Stachowiak has gone 5-1 on court one.
Duke was also ranked No. 19 in the latest Tennis Channel/USTA College Tennis Top 25 Poll announced on Wednesday morning.
Duke returns to the courts next weekend with its first ACC match of the season as the Blue Devils host Virginia Tech on Friday, Feb. 28 at the Ambler Tennis Courts. The Blue Devils will also host Coastal Carolina and Holy Cross in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.Â
