Duke Earns Win No. 1
Eleven different Blue Devils scored at least one goal and 13 registered a point in Duke's 17-8 victory over High Point Saturday. Four players registered their first career points –

Will Frisoli,
Connor Drake,
Blake Leischow – as Duke used a strong second half to pull away for the nine-goal win.\

Connor Drake made their first career starts and a host of other Blue Devils saw their first action of 2020.
Duke Defense Buckles Down
Defensively, Duke allowed a pair of early goals in the opening two minutes before buckling down and keeping the Panthers scoreless for the remainder of the period. The Blue Devils allowed just six more goals, including none in the fourth quarter, over the next 58 minutes. Overall, Duke forced High Point into 23 turnovers for the game.
JT Giles-Harris drew the matchup with two-time SoCon Player of the Year Asher Nolting and held the junior to only two goals for the game and none in the second half. Nolting was averaging 5.2 points per game heading into the contest.
Badour's Hot Start
Cameron Badour, in his second season on the field after missing his rookie year to injury, is on a sophomore spike. The Ontario native has already has more points this season than he did in his 12 games last season. Badour has five goals and three assists to his name to pace the Duke offense. He sports an impressive .556 shooting percentage after two games.
This past weekend, Badour sparked a 4-0 Duke with consecutive goals four minutes apart to tie the game 2-2 midway through the first quarter. In the second and third quarters, he dished out a pair of assists for his first career multiple assist game.
Rookie Poles Get in the Mix
After Badour tied the game halfway through the first quarter, a pair of rookie longsticks gave the Blue Devils their first lead. In his first collegiate action,
Will Frisoli forced a turnover and then converted in transition for the 3-2 lead.
Less than two minutes later,
Tyler Carpenter corralled a loose ball on defense, found
Blake Leischow for the clear. He was rewarded with a return pass from Leischow and then effortlessly face dodged a High Point defender before dropping it in the goal.
Bonafede Solid in First Career Action
Sophomore goaltender
Andrew Bonafede, who missed his rookie season to injury, came off the bench in the second quarter and made six saves to garner his first career victory between the pipes. The Bay Shore, N.Y., native made four saves in the fourth quarter as Duke held the Panthers scoreless for the final 20:45. Bonafede also had two ground balls.
Top-10 Opponent Awaits
Duke makes the trip west to Denver to take on the eighth-ranked Pioneers Saturday. The Blue Devils are 117-58 against ranked opponents since 2006 and is set to face eight of the current USILA top 20 over the course of the next two months.
Last Time We Met
Junior
Joey Manown provided the fireworks last season, scoring a goal with 6.9 seconds left to lift Duke to a 10-9 victory. Duke trailed 7-4 early in the fourth quarter before it went on a five-goal run over the next 10 minutes to take a 9-7 lead. Denver rallied to tie the game before Manown came through with the heroics.
